Bolsover Castle was founded on medieval times, but the ruins which are visible today almost all date from the Jacobean period. It was built by Charles and William Cavendish, Earls of Newcastle.

Hardwick Hall, a magnificent Elizabethan mansion built by Bess of Hardwick, near Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Renowned for its tapestries and with fine gardens. Set in a large park.

Ilam Hall is the remains of the hall built by the Watts Russell family in the 1820s, close to Ashbourne. The Hall and Park now belong to the National Trust

Kedleston Hall, a classical Palladian Mansion built by Robert Adam, near Derby, Derbyshire. Home of the Curzon family and Lords Scarsdale, it is filled with memorabilia of Lord Curzon's time as Viceroy of India. Set in large park.

Lyme Hall, a fine Italianate house in Disley, Cheshire, on the edge of the Peak District. Used by the BBC in their adaptation of Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice' - this is where Mr D'Arcy lived. Set in a large park with gardens.

Sudbury Hall, once the home of the Vernon family, is a fine and highly individual late 17th Century house south of Ashbourne and between Derby and Uttoxeter, Derbyshire. It also houses the 'Museum of Childhood'.

Tissington Hall is the 17th century home of the FitzHerbert family in Tissington Village near Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Wonderful furniture, paintings and porcelain collection.
