Historic Hotel Hosts Seasonal Events to Celebrate Community
As the Cumbrian woodlands transition into their stunning autumn hues, the influx of holidaymakers dwindles, leaving only the most adventurous fell walkers and off-season explorers. This quieter time of year provides locals with the chance to reclaim their surroundings, but many attractions close their doors until spring, limiting opportunities for leisure.
In response, one of South Lakeland’s oldest hospitality venues, The Swan Hotel and Spa at Newby Bridge, is ramping up efforts to host a series of autumn and winter events. These initiatives are designed to foster community spirit and offer families, couples, and individuals both living in and visiting Cumbria a chance to socialise, unwind, and celebrate.
Established as a coaching inn at the end of the 17th century, The Swan has a rich history of providing hospitality to locals and travellers alike. Nestled on the banks of the river Leven at the foot of Lake Windermere, the hotel has welcomed guests for over 300 years and has evolved into one of the region’s premier venues.
The autumn festivities kick off with a “Monster Mash” fancy dress party for children on October 31st. This spooktacular event will feature an array of treats, games, and ghostly activities, culminating in a lively UV disco. The following night, an adults-only event titled “Spooky Spa-ty” will offer a memorable experience, with a DJ spinning haunting tunes and full access to the spa’s facilities, complemented by Halloween-themed cocktails.
On November 3rd, “Swanfire Night” promises to dazzle with a spectacular fireworks display. This free event invites everyone to enjoy a bonfire, barbecue, and various food vendors, while those looking for a unique experience can purchase tickets to relax in the spa’s hot pools with a glass of fizz as the fireworks light up the night sky.
Becky Edmondson, the marketing manager for The Swan, explained the motivation behind these events: “It’s understandable that venues concentrate events across the tourist season, but we felt it was time to offer locals and those visiting out of season something for them, too. Dates like Halloween and Bonfire Night provide the perfect opportunity to create something a little different, special, and memorable.”
Looking ahead, The Swan Hotel is preparing for the festive season, a time it has long celebrated in style. “Christmas is a fun time for staff and guests alike, with our party nights and spa breaks,” Becky noted. “This year, we’re going one step further to offer entertainments for everyone. We’ll host Christmas markets and wreath-making workshops for families, as well as Santa’s Grotto and a new offering: Christmas lunch with The Grinch for younger guests. My team will be busy as Santa’s elves but seeing everyone enjoy themselves makes it all worthwhile.”
With a variety of events lined up, The Swan Hotel and Spa is poised to become a hub of community activity in Cumbria this autumn and winter, ensuring that both locals and visitors can make the most of this picturesque region during the quieter months.
